Global Safety Textiles’ history spans more than 185 years – from our origins as a maker of silk ribbons to a specialist in industrial textiles and airbags today.

The High Rhine region, in the south of Germany, has a proud tradition of textile weaving. Global Safety Textiles originated here, starting life as a ribbon factory in Bad Säckingen in 1836. From 1933 onwards, the business traded under the name Seiba.

In the early 1990s, Seiba joined forces with another company, Berger. With a specialist focus on technical textiles for occupant protection systems, the new Berger Safety Textiles soon became a key partner for the automotive industry. A merger with Safety Components International created one of the world’s leading companies in this field, ITG Automotive Safety Textiles – now Global Safety Textiles.

On November 22nd, 2011, Hyosung Group acquired 100% of Global Safety Textiles. With this acquisition, Hyosung has achieved the industry’s first vertical integration, coupling its airbag yarn production business with Global Safety Textiles’ airbag textile and cushion manufacturing.
